Our clients needed more liveable space but with a small block the only option was a second storey extension.So we built a 3rd bedroom, ensuite and study on the second storey which now also has beautiful views overlooking Lake Burley Griffin.
Exsulite rendered foam cladding was used for the extension. It is more cost beneficial, but more importantly it means less weight bearing on the structure below. One aspect of this project which was really interesting from our perspective was the unique steel spine staircase with spotted gum hard wood tread that connected the upstairs extension to the rest of the house. The open look of the staircase really allows the feel of open spacious living in a small area.
We also undertook renovations to the existing house, including new carpets throughout, new stone benchtops in the kitchen and a new laundry. Our clients were still able to live in their house during the extension and renovation works.
